Table & Floor Lights

Table & Floor Lights

A short guide to Table and Floor Lighting for the darker seasons. Essential components in any interior, table and floor lamps are a more intimate form of lighting. Part functional item, part sculptural object the ideal table and floor lamps create a space rather than simply sitting in one:

The task light suggest focus, work and productivity in to the late hours. The reading light suggests intimacy, long afternoons and literary adventures. The true test is a light that can adapt to all these moods.

Table Lights

The beaten brass interior of the Beat Light is known for its strong directional beam. Fitting then that the new table edition comes equipped with a dimmable switch. This is ideal as winter descends upon the northern hemisphere and lighting conditions are prone to shift unexpectedly. A table light that can adapt to multiple scenarios, from study to spare room.

Some table settings require a more decorative approach, shifting focus to form and materiality. The bold simplicity of Plane Table light or the super-reflective surface of Base in Polished Brass provide statement items to adorn the table top. These table lights create a subtle mood – perfect for a lounge or entertaining space.

Pair Beat Table in Brass with dark a stained desk or table to juxtapose the brushed brass finish. Pair with brass candle and tea light holders to complete the look.

Floor Lights

Floor lighting is another matter. The proportions of a floor light demand more space, not only to stand but to be admired. The classical form of the Base Floor light is evident when placed, unobscured, in the corner of a room. In darker conditions this throws a dramatic arc of light. Design Research Studio used Base Floor Lights at the Royal Academy to accompany black Wingback Chairs.

In comparison, the super-reflective surface of the Bell Floor Light is a more contemporary choice. The Bell Light creates a diffused luminosity, gently lighting the space around it. A similar effect can be achieve with Mirror Ball Floor, Copper Bronze Floor, Copper Shade Floor and Fat Spot. These lights can be rotated on their base and sit much closer to the ground. Use in a multifunctional environment with enough space to allow the lamp to be admired.
