Sotheby's Old Master Paintings
Tom Dixon Shop becomes a pop-up gallery for the The Dutch Golden Age
THIS WEDNESDAY, our home in Kings Cross, London becomes an unmissable art gallery again. We host Sotheby’s inside the arches of the Coal Office as they present a curated pop-up exhibition of paintings from The Dutch Golden Age. This time, for the whole day from 10am-8pm. Our canal-side space, combines Victorian engineering and contemporary architecture and design; it embodies the history and eccentricities of this newly restored and vibrant area of London.
The paintings hanging at The Coal Office were painted in an age of industry, in an age of travel and trade. The seventeenth century in Amsterdam and the surrounding Dutch and Flemish towns was defined by creativity and entrepreneurship; it was the age in which the canals and infrastructure of the Netherlands were put into place.
On exhibition this Wednesday 27th November 2019 (ahead of Sotheby’s Old Master Painting sales on 4-5 December), we present this group of Old Master Paintings in our unique environment, at the heart of London’s own industrial quarter.
Visit us at Tom Dixon Shop, 4-10 Bagley Walk Arches, Coal Drops Yard, Kings Cross, London, N1C 4DH
There will also be guided tours by Sotheby's experts from 1-6pm - book your tour now so you don't miss out!

Speaking about the collaboration, Tom Dixon said, ‘In any entrepreneurial or creative pursuit we need to continually seek ways to refresh our activities. Through this partnership with Sotheby’s, we really wanted to see how Old Masters from such an important period in Dutch history would react to being shown in a re-purposed industrial setting – the juxtaposition of contemporary furnishings, a rough Victorian backdrop and 300 year old paintings allows us to rethink what is the correct mix for the modern interior.’
