Pylon

The Pylon collection is a set of semi-transparent and lightweight occasional pieces. They are a light, strong, sculptural celebration of the triangle's simple symmetrical shape.

“The remaking of the Pylon Chair countless times, to reinforce weak points and prevent collapse, taught me how to make things properly. A crash course in structural engineering. The results make me believe more in the underlying structures of an object, rather than in their surfaces, and leaves me in awe of the structural engineer” Tom Dixon.

Tom Dixon's original Pylon chair was influenced by a series of bridge models seen at an architectural display, which inspired Tom to create a 'the lightest chair in the world'. The resulting incredibly detailed and intricate structures are made from hand-welded steel rods joined together with silver solder which is up to 40% pure silver, and plated in copper.
