YESTERDAY/ TODAY/ TOMORROW
AT XINTIANDI DESIGN FESTIVAL
25th May – 8th June 2020
Our Octagon is unveiled at Design Shanghai at Xintiandi Design Festival, the leading art and design festival in Asia. From 25th May to 8th June, Xintiandi Design Festival will host a series of art installations and design seminars by artists and studios from around the world.
Our exhibition, YESTERDAY/ TODAY/ TOMORROW will showcase an innovative and extraordinary display, entitled Octagon, which is a flatpack structure that transforms into a pavilion of eight vitrines to display elements of our universe. YESTERDAY / TODAY / TOMORROW encompasses some of hero products designed in the past, the new products launched today and the future designs of tomorrow.
Tom says: ‘When the going gets tough, the tough get going. There has long been a need for us to have a versatile, compact and re-usable exhibition to introduce our brand to a wider audience. This is particularly true in China where very few people know our story and there are so many commercial opportunities. We have also concentrated our efforts on big, international trade fairs and whilst these have been successful, it’s now time to be more mobile and more entrepreneurial. The Octagon is a compact system that is easily assembled to make a pavilion of eight vitrines. It allows us maximum flexibility to show a wide variety of facets of the Tom Dixon brand. It can be used for storytelling, new promotion, history and best sellers, and gives maximum impact with minimum footprint. The objective will be to take Tom Dixon to the people in a more versatile and dynamic way.’
Xintiandi Design Festival is open to the public.

Swirl Stepped Candleholder
Swirl is a series of geometric forms stacked upon one another to create multi-dimensional, functional sculptures. The unique process involves recycling the powdered residue from the marble industry, mixed with pigment and resin to create blocks of material that can then be sawn, sliced and turned on a lathe. Substantial in weight, smooth in texture and bold in pattern, Swirl will inject a fresh pop sensibility into any setting.
