Tom had never designed an entire house before gamely signing on to do just that for an eccentric couple in Monaco. With its zinc-covered retractable dome, concrete cladding and spartan profile, the 11,000-square-foot house — which took nearly five years to finish.

Both a manifestation of Tom's aesthetic and an escape from the city below it.
