INTRO

As well as Instagram Stories and Pinterest, you can find live updates from Tom on here from Monday 20th January. Straight from Paris.

4AM

We kicked off #24PARIS by introducing our new accessories collection of pressed glass artefacts called PRESS. A series of heavyweight grooved vases, bowls and candleholders made of fat, chunky coils of pure and clear transparent glass. Bold in silhouette and simple in function, they are manufactured by dropping big globs of molten glass at 1,200 degrees centigrade and pressed in two- or three-part iron moulds to create immediately familiar silhouettes. The thickest industrially pressed glass artefacts, designed and engineered to catch and refract light. And to last forever.

5AM

Our second launch at #24PARIS: new SWIRL vases

A psychedelic update of an Italian post-modernist aesthetic, the pop sensibility of SWIRL is created from a series of geometric forms stacked upon one another to create multidimensional, functional sculptures. Stem, Small and Medium vases are inspired by IKEBANA, which is the Japanese art of flower arrangement. Anchored with a heavy base, the cylindrical vessels allow branches and flowers to cantilever out.

6AM

Tom setting off to Paris from our London offices near King's Cross St Pancras station, whilst explaining how #24Paris came into fruition.

"We have enjoyed having a stand at Maison & Objet for many years, but it’s now time to be more mobile, to be more flexible and reach new and existing audiences in a different way. 24 Hours in Paris will allow us to maximise our time, pack as much fun and business into as short a time as possible and to react to the opportunities that this amazing capital has to offer.''

7AM

We are ready, are you?

8AM

Meanwhile in Paris...we got our #24PARIS menus printed at one of the world's leading print companies, Imprimerie Du Marais in the heart of Paris. La Imprimerie du Marais etches its own story—across eight Paris ateliers, producing the world’s finest printed products, writing their new story through timeless keepsakes, diaries, and ephemera.

"When I left school the first job I got was at a printer. You start off by cleaning. Then you learn the smell of the Ink and how to bundle. I would also deliver prints on my motorbike." - Tom Dixon

9AM

First stop for Tom and the team, Le Drugstore for breakfast - revisiting one of our Design Research Studio projects with PRESS vases, bowls and tealight holders on display throughout the interior space.

10AM

Le Drugstore Cinema was the next stop, where Tom presented the 2 new launches and the concept of #24PARIS. A footage of this has been uploaded onto our Instagram Stories.

11AM

Tom on the go! Exploring the streets of Paris with a Parisian bouquet of flowers from a renowned florists. A hint at our next destination...
Whilst on the go, Tom elaborates on his dual personality;

'' I love Paris and I have a dual or triple personality. I feel French when I feel revolutionary, when I feel like a gourmand, when I go to the art galleries and walk in the streets, when I have breakfast and when I’m cooking. I feel English when I play music or I design. ''

12PM

Claude Monet said, “I must have flowers—always and always”. This incantation has become something of a French rite, a parable rather than a simple wish. Debeaulieu is the house that makes it all come true. Nestled the 9th arrondissement, home to one of the best marketplaces in Paris (that is to say, the world), Debeaulieu is a shock of colour, a riot of ululating stems and crawling vines that is impeccably contained and designed, like a safari within a snow globe. Enter and entwine yourself.

Pictured above is Pierre Banchereau who is a florist at Debeaulieu. He tremedously adored our PRESS vases with enchanting array of flowers and colours. More pictures of the process and results are available on our Instagram Stories.

Tom's take on flower arrangement;

“My first trip to Japan I was treated by a gallery owner to a one-day course in Ikebana which made me understand that flower arrangement has a close relationship with architecture. Seeing the structure and how creative you can be.”

1PM

If you’ve eaten at one of Assaf Granit’s restaurants, you already know a bit about him. You know the Polish influences of his childhood, the Moroccan intermingling of his early years, the French finery of his training—these are written into his dishes, his biography spelt out on the blackboard. Shabour, the second of Granit’s Parisian offerings, after Balagan’s reservation-shooing success, is the city’s defining cuisine experience for 2020.

2PM

Assaf's signature dish, Egg Harminados with Caviar being prepared in PRESS bowls.

3PM

Next stop...24 Hours in MILAN.

"We have enjoyed having a stand at Maison & Objet for many years, but it’s now time to be more mobile, to be more flexible and reach new and existing audiences in a different way.

24 Hours in Paris will allow us to maximise our time, pack as much fun and business into as short a time as possible and to react to the opportunities that this amazing capital has to offer.

I love Paris and I have a dual or triple personality. I feel French when I feel revolutionary, when I feel like a gourmand, when I go to the art galleries and walk in the streets, when I have breakfast and when I’m cooking. I feel English when I play music or I design.

In the coming months, we want to roll out ’24 hours’ not just in Milan and Shanghai but also London, Copenhagen, Bangkok, Nanjing and Melbourne…"
