THE SOUTH BANK SKY ARTS AWARDS 2021

Tom Dixon designs the trophy of the 25th anniversary of the Sky Arts Awards.

Dissatisfied with the non-functional aspects of awards trophies, Tom Dixon set out to introduce an aspect of useability in his design. Tom decided on a pair of champagne glasses and a bottle stopper, machined from solid aluminium.

“I’ve always liked the secret function, and the idea of hiding the champagne glass and the stopper, which is cracking a problem that I always have - that I don’t want to drink the whole bottle and that I can’t find the stopper. So now you know where your stopper is.”

Manufactured in Bedfordshire precision engineering workshop, the awards is a close collaboration between product design and British Manufacturing using the latest digital metalwork and machinery. The separate components of the award are fixed together by magnets.
