Lacoste teamed up with Tom Dixon as part the Holiday Collector’s series, where it selected a designer outside the fashion world, to reinterpret the classic polo shirt. The result were two very different polo shirts, Eco Polo, which engaged in the provenance and craft of materials used and Techno Polo that challenged the technology and functionality of the garment. Eco Polo was made from organic cotton and natural indigo dyed (indigo was the chosen dye for its rich cultural heritage and ecological credentials). Each polo shirt was slightly different and unique. To reinforce the handmade quality of the polo, Dixon also challenged the consistency of the classic Lacoste polo shirt by adding new stitching and rougher edges. Techno Polo was inspired by Lacoste’s rich heritage in the engineering of textiles for increased performance and durability. Techno Polo combines hi-tech wearing of lurex fibers and cotton to create a contemporary take on classic sportswear. Both designs were launched as a limited edition collection.
