3D printing now allows us to create complete products in a rapid manufacture process; often this can be expensive if it is built as one complete object, but what if we were to create the parts to assemble the final piece?

In line with Most Salone’s 2013 theme of ‘disrupting design’, we thought we would let designers investigate this theory further.

So we partnered with Dassault Systèmes, who provide businesses with virtual universes for sustainable innovations, to launch the first open design competition for a modular concept.

Designers and students were invited to hack our products within an open software environment to create new re-configured versions. This was all based on 3D printed parts and joints that we showcased being printed live at MOST.

The winner of the competition will see their unique product printed in 3D and shown at Maison Et Objet, Paris from 6th – 10th September, and will also receive an iPad.
