London Design Festival 2012 is here, over the week we will be taking you on a tour of The Dock. We will spotlight the exhibitors joining us during the festival as part of Luminosity at The Dock and Be Open Space.

This morning we spent time with Tikau, a finnish company combining Scandinavian design and Indian handicraft traditions to employ and empower the artisans of rural India.

As part of Be Open Space, a flash market for emerging designers at The Dock, Tikau present their collection consisting of handmade home décor and clothing accessories for everyday wear.

The luxurious materials are all designed in Finland and hand processed by 130 artisans in rural India, each product is designed to be sustainable in terms of the environment, quality and aesthetics.

Taking a uniquely long-term, personal and human approach, Tikau collaborates directly with its 130 artisans in their home villages in India, combining Scandinavian design skills and traditional craftsmanship. As each Tikau item is hand-made, each product expresses the unique and individual signature of the artisan who has made it.

Tikau works in close collaboration with the charity based NGO Tikau Share.

Tikau are exhibiting as part of Be Open Space at The Dock until Sunday 23rd September - Register here to receive your entry pass.
