The Company

Established in 2002, Tom Dixon is a British design and manufacturing company of lighting and furniture. With a commitment to innovation and a mission to revive the British furniture industry, the Tom Dixon brand is inspired by our nation’s unique heritage. In 2004 Proventus, the Swedish-based private investment company, teamed up with Tom Dixon to establish Design Research, a design and product development holding company. Tom Dixon launches new collections annually at the Milan international furniture fair and product is sold across 63 countries.

Launched in 2007, Design Research Studio is the interior design arm of the Design Research Group. High profile projects include Shoreditch House and Paramount private members’ clubs as well as Joseph’s flagship store on Old Bond Street, London. Recently completed projects include Barbecoa, Jamie Oliver and Adam Perry Lang’s new restaurant in the One New Change development beside St Paul’s, London and Tazmania Ballroom, a private members club in the Central district of Hong Kong.

Tom Dixon rose to prominence in the mid 1980’s as 'the talented untrained designer with a line in welded salvage furniture'. Having worked for Italian manufacturer Cappellini where he designed the iconic S chair; Tom then went on to create his own company, 'Eurolounge', under which he made and sold the much celebrated Jack light. Dixon was appointed head of design by Habitat in 1998 and later became Creative Director until his departure in January 2008. Dixon was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 2001. He is the Creative Director of Tom Dixon.

The Tom Dixon brand is in a period of very fast growth, expecting to more than double in size year upon year for the next few years.

STUDIO COORDINATOR (3.5 MONTH TEMPORARY CONTRACT)

The Role

The Temporary Studio Coordinator will be chiefly responsible for managing the building & studio equipment maintenance & facilities for two properties & troubleshooting where necessary to ensure the smooth day to day running of a busy design studio.  Further additional responsibilities in the form of a studio PA & general office administration to the Board Directors and other line managers will also be required

Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Studio & H&S Coordination

  • Building Maintenance - liaising with landlord and contractors on all building issues & liaising with Line Managers on departmental space planning requirements
  • Building security - updating processes and ensuring lock up procedures are followed, updating key & fob inventory and acting as first point of contact for out of hours emergencies
  • Managing & purchasing office consumables including the ordering of office chairs, storage requirements, stationery & branded stationery & office supplies
  • Equipment maintenance & repair – ensuring all equipment is in good working order, sorting out electricity and wiring checks & annual PAT
  • Assisting the IT Manager with PC/Laptop audits, assigning telephone extension numbers and the purchase of telephone handsets & printer cartridges
  • Managing the business 'mobile's' account
  • Utilities management - ensuring all are maintained and serviced annually
  • Coordinating all service providers, e.g. cleaners, rubbish collections, fire and intruder maintenance providers
  • Estate car parking
  • Coordinating quarterly studio & workshop spring cleans and day to day office tidiness
  • Assist with developing the Company's Business Continuity Plan
  • Invoicing - ensuring that all service provider's and purchasing invoices are checked and returned to Finance for processing
  • Carrying out studio inductions for new starters
  • Mail room management
  • Updating and maintaining the COSHH cabinet in the workshop
  • Filling out quarterly studio risk assessment form templates & risk assessments for general studio events
  • Carrying out weekly fire alarm tests, 6 monthly fire drills and maintaining Fire Drill & Testing Log.  Acting as the main Fire Marshall Coordinator for the buildings
  • Acting as a Company First Aider

Other Studio PA responsibilities

  • Meeting room management
  • Minute taking for weekly team meetings
  • Managing the Creative Director's diary & sorting out Director's travel arrangements
  • Working with Finance Assistant to process Director's expenses
  • Milan Furniture Fair - Assisting & booking the team's travel arrangements & accommodation
  • Setting up quarterly Board meetings and assisting with formulating accompanying paperwork 
  • Providing Reception Lunch Cover on a rota basis & answering early morning switchboard calls. Buzzing in visitors and deliveries on the door entry system
  • Arranging Christmas / Summer parties & first of the month birthday team drinks, coordinating staff collections
  • Updating company handbook

The Candidate

We are looking for an approachable ‘all rounder’ candidate who primarily has strong office administration skills in a similar environment.  The candidate will need to be extremely methodical, possess an eye for detail with a highly organised 'service goaled' approach.  The candidate must have excellent time management and experience using outlook and microsoft office is essential.

Required interpersonal skills

The individual should have the following characteristics:

  • Have a positive, practical and adaptable approach to daily issues & problem solving.  Be enthusiastic and outgoing with a ‘hands on’ and ‘can do’ attitude.
  • A Self Starter - Have the self motivation to work both autonomously and pro-actively but also have ability to work as part of a team
  • Have the confidence to use own initiative
  • Have good communication skills with people at all levels
  • Be able to think ‘outside the box’ with regard to how tasks of the role affect other parts of the business i.e. a forward thinker

UK ACCOUNT MANAGER

The primary role of the UK Account Manager is to strategically drive and manage the growth of product sales for the Tom Dixon Collection through a network of UK based retail and contract wholesale customers.

As part of a rapidly growing company the role will be varied, and as well as the day to day management of customer accounts the candidate will manage UK focused events and contribute to a range of initiatives within the business.

Key responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Management of all UK wholesale accounts to ensure the most efficient flow of orders
  • High level of proactive customer communication to optimise sales
  • Strategic development and evolution of the UK wholesale network
  • Full involvement with complete order process and related sales support function
  • Scheduled visits to customers including regular product training
  • Mapping,  coordination and execution of UK based events
  • Support of UK architects and designers through the contract project specification process

Candidate

We are looking for a highly driven person with experience of the UK contemporary design contract industry, a passion for all things design and a proven record of achievement in a proactive sales position.  As a key representative of the company, excellent customer service and relationship building skills are required to help further drive the success of the brand.  You will have:

  • 3-5 years relevant experience within the contemporary design market
  • At least 1-2 years in a proactive account management and contract sales role
  • Proven organisational and project delivery abilities
  • An energetic attitude and natural social/networking skills
  • An all-encompassing desire to roll up your sleeves and get the job done

The UK Account Manager will report in to the Sales Director

GRAPHIC DESIGNER 

The Graphic Designer will chiefly be responsible for the generation and implementation of all creative graphics for the brand under the direction of a line Manager. The successful candidate will be required to work across the following disciplines: concept generation, development and application across brand identity, publication design, product packaging and interior graphics. They will have a proven track record in seeing projects through from conception to completion and an excellent working knowledge of the Adobe CS.

The candidate must demonstrate an imaginative flair and awareness of current fashions in the visual arts and is required to create and implement a variety of graphics using a mix of creative skills and commercial awareness. The role requires an individual to work across the breadth of projects for the Tom Dixon brand as well as new departments and brand extensions demonstrating different graphic capabilities within each entity.

Critical skills include:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the graphics industry
  • Strong visual and verbal communication skills
  • Delivery focused demonstrating ability to work through specific projects in given time frame across all departments at Tom Dixon
  • Work within a budget and rationalising cost related decisions alongside senior team member
  • Demonstrate Tom Dixon product knowledge, showing an awareness of materials, function, construction and cost. Understand the core brand attributes to realise these through creative output
  • Must be able to use Adobe CS Design Suite to include the following programmes, In Design, Illustrator, Photoshop. Experience in Dreamweaver, Acrobat and Flash is also useful
  • Proof Reading to produce accurate and high-quality work
  • Demonstrate working as part of a team with printers, photographers, other designers, web developers on given projects
  • Preparation of all graphics for print
  • Be able to think creatively to produce new ideas and concepts

MARKETING

  • Exhibition graphics for Tom Dixon stand at trade shows
  • Brand POS and Merchandising
  • Photo shopping images
  • Design and implementation of conceptual development for marketing and sponsorship partnership presentations

Retail Shop

  • Design of signage for temporary events held at the Brand Centre to include banners, entrance gate signage, site signage approximately 5-6 times a year
  • POS and Merchandising within the Tom Dixon Shop designed as an extension and in line with Shop by Tom Dixon graphics
  • Delivery of all invitations for events
  • Design set of postcards using brand photography and brand graphics for distribution through

Website

  • Designing and setting newsletter templates
  • Input on creative development of the website working closely with external company web developers
  • Design of website flyers, evites and banners for online marketing campaigns

Product Development/Design

  • Concept generation and delivery of new graphics for product packaging
  • Create and implement a unified brand identity across packaging labels and instruction sheets.
  • Create new and more efficient design format for all brand price lists
  • Design of new textures and graphic patterns in product design for the new collection. 
  • Create and design branding on product range
  • Management of a design intern

Design Research Studio

  • Design and implementation of conceptual development for new pitches and delivery of interior design scheme presentations for clients
  • Delivery of brand identity and graphics for external clients allowing DRS to offer the complete package to potential clients. To include logo, website, menus, signage, brochure etc.

Reporting Relationships

The Graphic Designer will report into the Brand Director

ACCESSORIES DESIGNER 

Tom Dixon is currently seeking a talented Accessories Designer to join their team in London. The successful candidate would be responsible for the design of Homeware and Accessories collections, working under the guidance of the Creative Director. Applicants should be able to prove that they are a self directed and highly motivated designer with a hands-on approach and a very strong sense of aesthetics and materiality.

Key attributes include:

  • 2+ years of relevant and proven industry experience. Experience in the homeware and accessories market is a distinct advantage.
  • A strong understanding of materials and manufacturing processes including but not limited to wood, glass, cast metals, ceramics and stone.
  • Ability to produce detailed technical drawings and specification packages to ensure efficiency and accuracy in product development.
  • Very strong physical model making and prototyping skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of Solid Works, Adobe Creative Suite, Maxwell render, Excel and windows
  • Effective project management – experience in development of briefs, ideation & research
  • Style and trend forecasting & research
  • Experienced in working directly with manufacturers to develop products from concept to manufacture.
  • Flexibility and an ability to handle many projects at once, including assisting with projects in other departments such as furniture + lighting and interiors etc.

Other responsibilities will include:

  • Communicating with agents & factories
  • Research and assisting with the formulation of briefs and collection strategies.
  • Factory visits both national and international
  • Signing off samples and prototypes
  • Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the United Kingdom.
