The Company

Established in 2002, Tom Dixon is a British design and manufacturing company of lighting and furniture. With a commitment to innovation and a mission to revive the British furniture industry, the Tom Dixon brand is inspired by our nation’s unique heritage. In 2004 Proventus, the Swedish-based private investment company, teamed up with Tom Dixon to establish Design Research, a design and product development holding company. Tom Dixon launches new collections annually at the Milan international furniture fair and product is sold across 63 countries.

Launched in 2007, Design Research Studio is the interior design arm of the Design Research Group. High profile projects include Shoreditch House and Paramount private members’ clubs as well as Joseph’s flagship store on Old Bond Street, London. Recently completed projects include Barbecoa, Jamie Oliver and Adam Perry Lang’s new restaurant in the One New Change development beside St Paul’s, London and Tazmania Ballroom, a private members club in the Central district of Hong Kong.

Tom Dixon rose to prominence in the mid 1980’s as 'the talented untrained designer with a line in welded salvage furniture'. Having worked for Italian manufacturer Cappellini where he designed the iconic S chair; Tom then went on to create his own company, 'Eurolounge', under which he made and sold the much celebrated Jack light. Dixon was appointed head of design by Habitat in 1998 and later became Creative Director until his departure in January 2008. Dixon was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 2001. He is the Creative Director of Tom Dixon.

The Tom Dixon brand is in a period of very fast growth, expecting to more than double in size year upon year for the next few years.

Web Assistant

Working with the Digital Marketing Manager to deliver the Tom Dixon online brand and ecommerce strategy. To drive traffic to the site through a promotional online calendar, and to accelerate brand awareness of Tom Dixon in the digital arena. 

Key responsibilities:

Web build implementation management:

  • Ensuring product and landing pages are maintained
  • Managing the development agency to fix bugs and implement new changes to the site on a daily basis.
  • Ensuring technical specs, descriptions and images are updated on product pages.
  • Management of trade download and press areas.
  • Management of timelines and specific project budgets
  • Site testing and post deployments
  • Help deliver wire framing and specification on specific projects

Digital communications - creation/ implementation/marketing:

  • Posting and updating new content to the site e.g. the creation of blog stories and homepage banners
  • Input into online promotional calendar to include third party collaborations, Flash Sales etc
  • Graphic generation and image photo shopping (banners, emailers, blog)
  • Create and manage all outbound emails & newsletters via mail chimp. Includes sales promotional offers
  • Monitor social sites and update content in line with promotional calendar on a daily basis. Being reactive and proactive in these areas.
  • Liaise with online contributors (bloggers, photographers, graphic designers) 
  • Deliver viral marketing campaigns  
  • Assist with online marketing tools – e.g. catalogue

CRM

  • Data management and administration
  • Support Digital Marketing Manager for all implementation and data migration
  • Support on CRM marketing campaigns and send outs
  • Processing of data post Tom Dixon events e.g. Brand Trade Shows, UK and customer events
  • Support marketing team on any questions regarding CRM. Act as trainer for any members of marketing team on CRM

Trade customer portal

  • Support on daily management
  • Update customer portal team with relevant brand promotions e.g. home page

Lighting Technician

This role supports the Product Development process to ensure that the Tom Dixon lighting  collection meets all relevant safety and performance standards applicable to each International  market and be responsible for managing certification, approvals and technical files.

This role requires a full understanding of:

  • EN60598 and other relevant lighting and electrical standards
  • Electrical safety
  • CE marking and documentation
  • EMC evaluation
  • Basic thermal and electrical testing
  • Current and forthcoming legislation relating to lighting
  • Managing technical files and documentation
  • Photometry
  • LED retrofit lamps and integrated LED solutions
  • Lighting controls
  • UL1598 and other standards relevant to the North American market
  • Experience of making and maintaining UL listings
  • CCC standards and certification
  • WEEE

And it would be desirable if the candidate had:

  • Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes
  • Experience of working and communicating with a variety of suppliers worldwide
  • Strong sensitivity to design
  • Experience in budget management

The appropriate candidate will have the ability to work with minimal instruction, and the confidence to develop new ways of working.  The key attribute of this person alongside lighting expertise, will be their organisational and communication skills. They will be a good team player, working closely with the Design, Product Development, Quality Assurance and Sales teams within a creative, energetic environment.

 Marketing Officer

 This role will be responsible for managing an annual marketing programme, co-coordinating and delivering the communication tools to drive Tom Dixon brand product sales. You will work closely with Merchandising, Sales, Exhibitions and Product Development to generate marketing and sales tools to drive direct sales revenue. These tools will work to a promotional monthly calendar managed by you.

Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to): 

  • Manage the annual promotional calendar gaining input from all departments
  • Manage generation of marketing & sales tools to support departments delivering promotions through the following channels:
    • New product launches
    • Dealers
    • Shop in Shop customers
    • Brand trade shows
    • Brand Sample sales
    • Third party channels
    • Co-ordinate, chair and minute weekly Promotions meeting to ensure all stakeholders are included and key decisions are made on-time

Marketing and Sales Tools  

  • Create offline and online tools, brand documents and specific sales materials to support and promote new product launches (April and September), existing products and sell in. Managing generation of tools with external agency or create internally.
    • Product case studies (new and existing)
    • Marketing and sales training documents
    • Exclusive showroom offers and customer promotions 
    • Additional product tools – e.g. ceiling canopy
    • Printed material – e.g books
    • Sales price lists – layout and formatting
    • Technical specification sheets – support web assistant
    • Online catalogues – inserting hyperlinks to product pages
    • Presentations
    • Posters (for merchandising)
    • Advertising
    • Invitations
    • Hero press coverage on products
  • Work with online team to send out promotions via mail chimp
  • Management of photography of hero contract projects around the globe
  • Product photography – support the Marketing manager in the organisation of cut out and brand photography
  • Support marketing team on special projects – e.g. book publishing and sourcing images
  • Support sales team for trade customer events, exhibitions and Tom Dixon Shop in Shop launches.
  • Image resizing and retouching. Solid experience in using InDesign CS5.5, Photoshop CS5.1, and Adobe X Pro essential

Other Projects

  • Database management through CRM
  • Covering reception when required
  • Organisation of weekly marketing meeting, circulating agenda and writing up notes
  • Answering phones
  • Update weekly events schedule and distribute to Tom Dixon internal team. Weekly update with  MD before circulated to rest of  the company

Senior Product Designer

Tom Dixon are recruiting for a Senior Product Designer/Design Manager to work in London.

You will be leading a small but talented team, working closely with Tom to realise his creative vision in the form of highly innovative collections across the categories of Furniture, Lighting and Accessories.

  • You must be comfortable working in a fast paced environment, within set time frames to deliver successful products from brief to production.
  • Working closely with the product development team, you will be creating globally sourced and manufactured products that must be unique and forward thinking, eschewing current trends and asking deeper questions about production, distribution, aesthetics and function. 
  • You should excel at all the usual skills required of a senior product designer, from sketching and model making to visualisation and presenting with confidence, as well as having a strong understanding of the commercial constraints of designing real products.

You should have 5+ years of proven industry experience and a degree in Product or Industrial design. Experience in furniture, lighting and homeware is a distinct advantage.
