Mirror Ball

Sometimes your biggest failure could be your biggest success. One of our most instantly recognisable lamps has the opposite effect of what was originally intended in the design. The aim was to produce a completely spherical, highly mirrored object that would disappear into its surroundings. Instead it does the opposite and is an ultra-visible, highly reflective object referencing space helmets and disco balls.

Mirror Balls are created through the process of vacuum-metallization. An immense electrical charge vaporizes a small strip of metal into a mist of particles that settle on the lamp.

Blown like bubble gum into a mould, these plastic spheres are metalized internally to give a mirrored finish – a process commonly used in producing sunglasses and space helmet visors. This internal metallic design focuses the brightness from the bulb, projecting a soft, broad beam of light. The option of a gold finish adds an extra level of sophistication, created by vaporising a thin layer of pure metal onto the internal surface creatomg a gold mirrored surface that takes on the characteristics of its surroundings. An over-scaled, basic, yet extravagant spotlight.
