Shop by Tom Dixon launches at ABC Carpet & Home
This February 25th 2008, Tom Dixon will be opening his new branded concept space Shop at the renowned destination home store ABC Carpet & Home, in Manhattan, New York. Shop will be the first Tom Dixon concept store showing Tom Dixon's entire lighting and furniture collection in the US market. It will be characterised by Tom's industrial aesthetic underpinned by the key theme for the new 2008 collection of metallics.
As Tom Dixon comments, "New York remains the Iconic City, the one you want to visit, and also the one that you need to be in if you are serious about having a global presence, so we are delighted to create our home away from home at ABC..."
Situated on the 2nd Floor of ABC Home, Shop will occupy 1000 square foot of retail space in the ABC Home destination store on 888 Broadway and East 19th Street.
The display features a series of vignettes, which provide a platform to illustrate Tom Dixon's passion for materials. For example, rich tones and textures are displayed in the form of highly metallised Copper Shades shown in a dramatic cluster above the brushed oak 'low slab' coffee tables complimented by the quilted upholstery system 'Slouch' shown in a deep red.
The opening of Shop will launch the new 2008 Tom Dixon collection, seen for the first time in the US at ABC Home. The 2008 collection uses metals as a means to explore methods of creation and take Tom back into the material that initiated his original interest in design. Tom Dixon is inspired by a diverse range of sources; from cast iron, traditionally used by the engineers of the industrial revolution, translating this into solid cast iron pieces which demonstrate a rough hewn sense of robust British quality, through to employing skilled master craftsmen of the Indian subcontinent creating the Beat Lights with hand beaten finish, as well as the use of modern industrial methods to create the Punch Light series made from punched stainless steel and inspired by the cooling fins of a motorcycle engines.
Other first sight products on show include Beat Vessels handcrafted from unpolished brass as well as the Base Table and Floor Light which use an unusual combination of metals; a satin finished brass shade combined with a traditional matt textured cast iron base.
Paulette Cole, the CEO and Creative Director of ABC Home explains the important addition to the store's collection by saying, "At ABC Home, we are committed to representing design that walks the cutting edge of evolution and experimentation. The US market will be the 2nd largest market, next to the UK, in 2008 for Tom Dixon. With the launch of a US division and warehouse in July, Tom Dixon will continue to expand in USA. |
