The Tom Dixon shop at Portobello Dock showcases the full Tom Dixon range of lighting and furniture. An exclusive selection of work from international concession brands such as Piet Hein Eek, Ateliers Ruby, Brompton Bikes and Phaidon, are also presented and integrated into the space. Design Research Studio designed the shop’s modular display system to create the required flexibility and bold aesthetic using a variety of materials such as anodised aluminium, glass, gold and silver mirror and black gloss.
The shop’s backdrop was designed to compliment the existing Grade II Listed Building as it echoes the black module of the façade mullions in the adaptable ceiling grid and shelving units. The ceiling grid is key to the shop’s fluidity as it suspends Tom Dixon pendant lights, chandeliers, LED light sticks, spotlights and signage. Vertical supports flow from the ceiling grid to allow for division screens, shelving and additional surfaces. Glass cubes of various sizes are stacked in endless combinations to create more precious backdrops whilst adjustable mirrored shelving, with integrated lighting, allows for a flexible vertical display.
